A Birthday at Hood River

Kraig wanted to check out the Hood River Fruit Loop for his birthday.  It was a fantastic way to spend the day in my humble opinion.  Apple orchards, grape vineyards, and pear trees stretched as far as the eye could see in the foothills of the mountains.

Owen was in heaven- the boy loves apples and couldn't believe how many there were ripe for the picking!

This is Mt. Hood and she is visible from up to 70 miles away- meaning on clear days we can see her from Portland (30 miles away).  A majestic view for a birthday, if I do say so myself.

A blurry family photo for your enjoyment:

We had dinner at a local (Hood River) brew pub called Big Horse.  This was the first time that Owen got a kids meal, and it was only because we were so excited about our meals that we didn't want to share.  I got the butternut squash and gorgonzola ravioli with asparagus, and Kraig got roasted red pepper gnocchi.  Owen?  He kept with the pasta theme and got spaghetti.

We had a beautifully scenic drive home while we watched the sunset over the western hills of Portland.  Once Owen was in bed, it was time to light the candle and enjoy some birthday cake!

And it is every. single. bit as delicious as it looks.

And now we have over 25 pounds of apple to process into delicious baked treats.  Yum!

A fabulous, and delicious, birthday celebration was had by all.  Cheers to 26 years!
