Yes, that's really all we need baby to wait on- for us to be done with our to-do's. Otherwise, he has free reign to come whenever he feels like it. Sort of...
Please come before Thanksgiving, please, oh please, oh please. Mama really wants to eat lots of carbs and dessert. COME ON BABY! (Plus we don't exactly have a sitter lined up for Owen during the holiday weekend... so before that would be just perfect.) xoxoxo
We really don't have much left on our lists... except all the sewing and knitting I want to get done. Obviously none of that is "necessary" though.
Anyway, I'm just trucking along! October is flying by (anyone else feel this way?) and we haven't even started doing fun autumn-y things yet (pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving, fall baking (*sniff* I won't be doing that until after baby comes....) We really need to make time for that, as well as to celebrate our anniversary. Thankfully we are SO close to being done with our "big" projects. We just need this wonderful Portland weather to cooperate so Kraig can finish painting some furniture outside.
I feel really good lately, which of course I attribute to my chiropractor. Baby is also anterior (PERFECT) so he's way up in the front of my belly, not under my ribs. This means he's not kicking me in the ribs (Thanks, Baby!) I feel awesome. My iron is great, my blood sugars have been good, I am sleeping pretty well- all things considered- and I feel wonderful! Life is good.
We're not generally anxious about anything, just wondering when and how I will go into labor. This curiosity is not necessarily for our own sake of knowing, just for the logistical aspect of how we're going to handle Owen. I'd love to be able to put him to sleep and then head out, leaving him with one of our caregivers that we have lined up. Then he could wake up and hopefully come to meet his younger brother. Of course, the best laid plans..... And this is childbirth we're talking about here, so surely things will happen in the most inconvenient way possible, right? Just as long as it happens before Thanksgiving! *wink* But generally speaking, I'm pretty excited that we're getting closer and closer to the birth. I'm ready. I just can't wait to see how it all happens! Will my water break?! Will I be in labor for days or just for a few hours? Will it be totally unexpected or will I know it's coming? Will Kraig be at work and will I have to call him to come home quick?! So much excitement, I can hardly contain myself.
We have our home visit next week and then we go to weekly appointments from here on out. The last "hurdle" we have is the GBS test, which is next week. It's a totally normal bacteria that comes and goes in the body and there is a 30% chance of having it around the time of delivery. I was in the 30% last time and had to have antibiotic treatment while in labor. The risk to baby is so, so, so, so, SO very low (fewer than 1% of babies become ill, and it is rarely (again, <1%) fatal). But, standard hospital protocol is to test all mothers and subsequently treat all GBS+ mothers. Well, this time we aren't in a hospital and so we are not following hospital protocol! (Who am I kidding, we haven't been following standard medical protocols for the duration of this pregnancy. Ahhh, informed consent feels so good.) We are having the test, hoping for a negative, and then using alternative treatments if it is positive.
This week baby is ~5.3 pounds and ~18 inches long. WOW!
And the biggest news is that Kraig's baby came in the mail. That's right, a brand new, super-amazing espresso machine. My oh my, does it ever make the best lattes. Well, I think my skilled husband has something to do with it too, but it's a great machine. Kraig also thinks it's quite necessary for afternoon shots of espresso during the most sleepless newborn phase. I agree!
