Reet! Reet!

Owen loves reeting (reading).  He will bring books to us all. day. long. and ask us to "reet?"  He snuggles up in our lap every single time.  I mean, who can resist that?!

In fact, he snuggles in anyone's lap if they are willing to read to him.  Literally, anyone.  The lady at the doctor's office?  Oh yeah.  Luckily she was willing to snuggle with a stranger's cute kid.  New person at church?  Nurse Practitioner?  Neighbors and their kids?  They are all so welcoming and he is thrilled to have new "reeters."

We told his babysitters last week that if they just read to him for the 2 hours that we were gone, he would be perfectly content the entire time.  It worked.  One of them said she read at least 30 books to him, and he hardly even noticed we were gone.

We love that he loves reading, really, we do.  It's just.... I mean.... we only have so many books.  And we can only check out so many new ones from the library.  So reading the same books day in and day out is... boring.  Not for Owen, though.  Oh man, he picks up on the stories, themes, characters, and noises in no time.  Pretty soon he "reads" the books to us- as in *flip the page* "Cat!" *flips the page* "Choo Choo!" *flips the page* "Lion!"

All that to say that I am glad he is becoming more comfortable exploring the books on his own and we don't always have to be the ones flipping, reading, and making the animal sounds.  Not that we aren't there to cheer him on and sometimes join in- but it's so amazing to be joining him in his world as opposed to leading him through our world.  They grow so fast, don't they?  We love watching his wheels turn and his imagination take off.

And we are always available for complete book readings.  I mean, he snuggles in our lap!  How can we resist?
