We sold our artificial tree at a garage sale before the move. We didn't even put it up last year because of a certain newly-mobile baby in the house. We thought maybe this year we would do the same thing.... which would delay the inevitable question of artificial vs. real. As far as eco-friendly options, both are lacking. Artificial trees are made of PVC which is the most toxic plastic and therefore pollutes the air inside the home. It cannot be recycled, so they just sit and sit and sit in a landfill. That is obviously a terrible option. But a real tree has issues too, like pesticides, unwanted critters (ants! I've heard the stories, trust me!), and the fact that it is, well, a tree that was cut down and maybe not replaced.
Soooo, imagine our excitement when we came across THIS. It is perfect! Small (about 40 inches tall) so we can have it up on a table out of Owen's reach. Versatile- we can hang just about anything on it! Tinsel, garland, decorations, lights, etc. It's super simple, which is obviously a win in our book. And it's green! No plastics, no trees cut down... it can be used year after year! And it folds flat when not in use. I don't think it gets any better.

I am so very excited about decorating for Christmas now! Usually we are admittedly a bit jaded this time of year by all of the consumerism, waste, and general chaos. Not this year! Simple, handmade, eco-conscious holidays, here we come!
