Trip to Seattle: the train

I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit nervous about how Owen would do on the train (and in the hotel, and at Wanda's house without a pack and play, and on the train ride home which we scheduled right at his bedtime and would put us home 3 hours after his usual bedtime!)  What can I say?  Owen is not a very flexible kid when it comes to sleep, but we were going to push through and try to survive.  Well...  I think that looking back, the Most Wonderful Traveling Partner award goes to Owen.  Hands down.  What a trooper!

I just gave away the ending, didn't I?  Oh well, let's back up the train (heh) to the beginning.

Owen and I were left to pack up all of our suitcases and cooler while Kraig worked on Tuesday morning.  No worry, I'm confident in my packing abilities and had no trouble juggling Owen's nap, my shower/primping, and packing.  The only thing I forgot was to, um, feed myself lunch.  Don't worry, Owen had lunch, of course.

Our friend/neighbor brought us to the train station and we checked in with plenty of time to spare.  We got settled in on the train and were pleased to see that they were going to play Toy Story 3 on the TV's.  We don't let Owen watch TV usually, so it was a nice treat and kept himself busy calling out the various "characters"; Bunny!  Baby!  Horsey!  Bear!

When he'd get a little antsy, we'd take a stroll around the train cars, and played in the luggage rack.

The train ride took a whopping THREE hours longer than expected due to "brutal weather conditions", i.e. the one inch of snow that Seattle got and the consequent freezing of the switches on the tracks.  Being from NE Ohio where it snows MUCH more, and much more OFTEN, we were a little perturbed.

Oh well, our friends Wanda and Dan were there to pick us up, with hot vegetarian Pho and fried noodles to boot!  Hooray for thoughtful friends.

We quickly unpacked in our hotel room and put the little one to bed (easily, phew!) and we ate our dinner on the hotel floor.  Hey, we gotta do what we gotta do as parents of a sleeping kid.  Besides, it reminded of us of our vacation/cross country trip where we'd eat our dinner outside of our hotel room in the hallway as Owen slept.  Ah, memories.
